Our Staff


Caraway
At Camp Caraway, we believe that the key to an outstanding camp program lies in the ability to put together an outstanding Christian staff who truly care about each boy who comes to camp. A great amount of prayer, time and effort goes into the process of selecting, training, and supervising the dedicated summer staffers who serve as Camp Counselors and Counselors in Training at Camp Caraway.  All Camp Counselors have finished at least one year in college, and all Counselors in Training are at least age 16.  Staff screening includes completeing an application, 4 references, personal interview with the director, and a national background check including criminal and national sex offender.  In addition to our summer staff, we have excellent pastors and missionaries who lead our daily worship and mission study sessions.


Accreditation and Safety


Caraway makes safety and risk management our top priority.  We are intentional about this because we know that your children are one of your most precious gifts from God, and we appreciate your confidence in us to keep them safe!  We stay up to date on industry standards to provide a safe and fun program.
One way that we do this is by being accredited by The American Camp Association.  
   

·  Campers are supervised at all times by staff.  Our staff are well prepared through our comprehensive        training and orientation program following the American Camp Association standards and the latest            industry standards and safety precautions. In addition to the special training all staff members receive in    working with their particular age group assignment and specific recreation training, they also are trained    in first aid, CPR, and basic water rescue.  A certified life guard is on duty at all swimming times at the         pool and lake.
·  Staff are screened before hiring through a detailed application process which includes:  a thorough             written application, an interview, and an annual national back ground check.
·  We have a registered health care provider that consults with our health care and medication staff               routinely.
·  Contact us before camp if your child has special food needs and we will be happy to work with you.


Facilities


The Caraway facilities are owned and operated by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Caraway features 18 comfortable cabins, a grade A kitchen and dining hall, a missions center building, an indoor worship center, a snacks "canteen" building, a large covered activities building, outdoor chapels, a beautiful lake for canoeing, kayaking and swimming,  and a swimming pool. Cabins for ages 9-11 have air conditioning, and cabins for ages 12-17 are more rustic and have screened windows and fans.  There are also play areas for field sports, trails for hiking, a large camping area, as well as four basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, archery, air rifle, and paintball  ranges.  Caraway also features  low ropes team building course, zip lines, rappelling tower and rock climbing wall for older boys.  All of our beds are single sized bunk beds.

Great Food


The dining hall is designed to feed the entire camp at one sitting. Campers eat family style with their own cabin group. The food is a blend of kid friendly food with healthy choices of fruits and vegetables.  A salad bar and peanut butter and jelly bar are available at most lunch and dinner meals.   The kitchen and dining facilities consistently receive a grade "A" rating and our kitchen manager is certified in Serve Safe. Up to two meals will be enjoyed cooking in the out of doors over a fire. Boys also have the optional opportunity to purchase snacks and drinks in our camp canteen daily.  Water coolers are available for boys to refill their water bottles all across camp.
