Sponsor a Child with Baptists on Mission and Baptist Respond24
What is child sponsorship?
The Child Sponsorship Program gives children a chance to survive and start a more meaningful life in countries where warm food, schooling and a home are guaranteed for only a few, who are privileged. Since 2001, Hungarian Baptist Aid (Hungarian partner of Respond24) has helped more than 4,000 children from 16 countries around the world, which would not have been possible without the generous donations received from individuals and corporations.
When you decide to sponsor a child, you do not only improve everyday circumstances, but you also give her/him chance for dignity, future and purpose.
How does it work?
For $30 a month ($1 a day), you can take care of a child in need. The sponsor will receive a specific child’s profile with his/her picture, name and basic information. You can support the child for at least a year.
Where are the children from?
Respond24 is currently sponsoring children from Haiti and Lebanon. The children in these countries have endured much hardship in recent years.
In January 2010, an earthquake devastated the Caribbean island. The catastrophe caused the death of nearly 200,000 people, and the same number of people lost their homes. Two years later, a 1500 sq. m. (about 16,000 sq. ft.) children’s center was inaugurated in the capital of Haiti. The complex, which is called “Source of Light Center,” was built by local workers under the direction of Hungarian Baptist Aid and in cooperation with Baptist World Alliance. One of the wings of this three-story building provides a home for 48 orphans. The complex also includes a school and a kindergarten for altogether 200 students. The Center owns a water purification system and a packaging manufactory, which provides safe drinking water for the children and contributes to the operation of the institution. The Center also runs a program for handicapped children.
In the midst of war and terror, thousands of Syrians have fled their country in hopes of a better life. Because of the conflict, and the fact that public schools in Lebanon do not accept Syrian children, thousands of refugee children were left without an education. Located on the Syrian border, True Vine Church (in Zahle, Lebanon) saw the needs of these refugees and responded. They opened up the basement of the church to become a school for refugee children.
Currently 270 children attend the school. Children often come to school hungry because of the desperate financial situations their families are in. Most of these children are Muslim. This is an opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus by meeting the physical needs of these children and their families. By sponsoring a child in Lebanon, you would help to cover the cost of transportation, food, and education materials.
What will my $30 provide?
Depending on the needs in the area, Respond24 will ensure that your $30 a month will go directly to the child in need. Each child will receive food, clean drinking water, education supplies, clothes and basic healthcare. By being a part of this program, each child will also hear the Good News of Jesus through the Christian school he or she attends.
