Phase III
The work in Haiti continues to evolve from providing surge capacity to the Petionville Community Hospital after the January 12, 2010 earthquake, to construction, mobile clinics, doctor’s office and now a Haitian-led Medical Ministry. At this time, we are recruiting medical teams to work in Haiti in order to establish a long-term presence for this ministry. A “team” can be 2 to 6 people with the majority of team members being medically trained.
COST: $735 for logistics (housing, food, in-country ground transportation, accident insurance) + Price of airplane ticket (average for 2012 was $450-850 at 90 days prior to trip date) Housing will be in a compound or similar that provides lodging, food, and security. A team deposit of $500 is due 2 weeks after date reservation to hold the slot. $500 is due from each registrant 90 days prior to departure. The full amount is due 60 days prior to departure. The team deposit will be returned or distributed as directed by the team leader.
You must possess a passport valid for 6 months after your return date. Also, be advised, Haiti is hot, dangerous and volatile. You must be in good physical shape. The accommodations do not have air conditioning. Age: 15-17 yrs. old with parent or 18+ without. Medically trained volunteers must possess a current, medical license and not have any current or pending litigation or disciplinary action.
Medical teams will work in mobile community clinics or doctor’s office doing primary care in rough conditions. Some opportunities may exist for medical specialties. Ideal team is 1 Primary Care Provider, 2 Nurses, 1 Pharmacist and 2 additional medical professionals or non-medical volunteers. But, we are flexible! If you have a specialty and would like to use it in Haiti, we will try to find a location for your work. Typical trip begins in the US with a flight to Port-au-Prince on Sunday, return on the following Saturday.
