Lebanon
North Carolina Baptist Men will sponsor mission opportunities in Lebanon in 2011. NC Baptists will have three ways to participate, as described below. This ministry is in conjunction with Living Faith Ministries, International, a non-denominational ministry dedicated to share Jesus throughout the Middle East in an open manner. Chaouki (pronounced “sha-we”) Boulos, a Lebanese Christian, is the founder of the ministry.
Unknown to many, Lebanon is a nation that is 36% Christian, making it unique among Middle Eastern countries. There is a rare opportunity to come alongside Christians in Lebanon and assist them in reaching people throughout the region.
Here’s how North Carolina Baptists can be involved
Construction of a Training/Retreat Center:
Construction has begun on a training/retreat center north of Lebanon. This center will give evangelical Christians a place to gather for fellowship, train their leadership, and reach others for Christ. A North Carolina group worked on the first unit in July 2008. A second unit was begun in 2010. Dates of 2011 trips will be April 6-16; September 11-20; and September 25-October 4. Cost will be $500 per person plus airfare.* Much of the work is concrete, block, or tile work. Local help is on-site to direct the team in their efforts. The teams this year will likely be able to live in the first unit while working on completion of the second one.
Sponsorship of a “Celebration” evangelical event:
A primary ministry vehicle for Living Faith Ministries has been Operation Antioch, open-air evangelistic “celebrations” that include uplifting music and dynamic preaching. We will be looking for North Carolina churches to help sponsor the cost of these events. Total cost for the events range from $10,000 - $25,000, depending on venue and length of event. We would ask NC churches to consider providing up to $1000 toward sponsorship of one of these events. In addition, a sponsoring church may choose to send a team of 5-6 to participate in the “Celebration” through preparation and evangelistic activities. A five-day, open air event is scheduled for July 6-10 in Beirut. Cost would be $500 plus airfare.* These events are fantastic opportunities to meet dedicated believers and experience a true moving of the Holy Spirit among the Lebanese people.
Sponsorship of a Child for Christian Sports Camp:
Living Faith Ministries will conduct three sports camps this summer. Each camp will have 35-60 children who come from a variety of backgrounds including Bedouin communities, orphanages, local churches, and poor neighborhoods. The camps will be four days in length. Campers will receive instruction in basketball, soccer, and other sports. The gospel will be shared through daily evangelistic services, Bible Study, and the guidance of Christian counselors and instructors. Sponsors are needed to help make this camp possible. You can sponsor a child's week of camp for $110 per child. If you can help with this please contact NC Baptist Men.
Sponsorship of Bedouin student:
Living Faith Ministries has started a new school for Bedouin children who live on the border of Lebanon and Syria. These children will receive instruction from Christian teachers. A child can be sponsored for as little as $30 a month or $360 per year. Sponsors will receive initial information and updates on each child. Click here for more information about adopting a student.
If you can put together a team for one of these projects, or would just like additional information, please contact NC Baptist Men at 1-800-395-5102, or by e-mail at mabernathy@ncbaptist.org
* Airfare will vary, but should be around $1600-1800. Cost does not include food, as there is a wide variety of dining opportunities – from American fast food to cultural fine dining restaurants. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel.
