Haiti HT18-007

Purpose:
The purpose of the Haiti/NCBM Medical Teams are to assist the Alpha Omega Medical Clinic (ALOM) in Haiti.  ALOM provides basic medical care to all Haitians in need of assistance, and was founded by Drs. Vladimyr Roseau, his wife Merline, and her sister Francise Milien after the devastating earthquake of 2010.  ALOM offers both a fixed clinic within the town of Cabaret, as well as multiple mobile sites surrounding this area. The number of patients needing care far exceeds the number of medical personnel available.  NCBM would like to send support healthcare providers to assist with this need.

Teams
Teams should consist of 6-8 members. Ideally, the majority of the team members should be medical personnel, but some non-medical members are encouraged to participate as well. For example, on an 8 person team, at least 5 of the 8 should be medically trained.

Cost
The total cost of this trip will be approximately $1600.   The base cost of this trip is $850, PLUS an additional cost for the airline ticket.  This includes food, lodging, transportation, translators, and supplemental health/evacuation insurance. (You are also encouraged to consider trip cancellation insurance for your trip at $5.20 per day per person extra cost.) You will need to pay an additional $10 once you arrive at the PAP airport, as an entrance fee.  Take extra money. (Price does not account for any incidentals).

Each team will need to collect items from the needs list (sent from the ALOM clinic prior to departure), or bring money needed to purchase items in country. These items may include medications, medical supplies, water purification tablets, etc.

Logistics
The team will be met at the airport by an Alpha/Omega driver and transported to the base of operations. Volunteers will stay in a resort close to the fixed clinic.  Each room is equipped with air conditioning, bathroom and shower facilities. A full list of what to bring will be sent to the team leader.

Other
Participants will need a passport for travel. Please make sure your passport has at least six (6) months validity remaining from the time of your departure from Haiti. If it has less, you will need to obtain a new passport. A visa is completed while in transit to Haiti. In addition, we recommend that every overseas traveler be up to date on Tetanus, Hepatitis A/B and Typhoid. Participants should check with their physician and/or with the Center for Disease Control concerning their recommendations on other immunizations or medicines for travel to Haiti especially mosquito born illness. Minimum Age limit: 18
