March 6-14, 2016
Campbell Medical Team

EVANGELISTIC FOCUS: The purpose of our being in Honduras is to partner with Honduran congregations in proclaiming the gospel of Christ. All teams (including construction) will have opportunity and be encouraged to participate in evangelistic outreach to the community in which they work. This may include prayer walks, door-to-door visitation, VBS or Backyard Bile Clubs for the children, etc. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your team. Our area of focus in 2016 will be south of Tegucigalpa, in and around the Choluteca area, as there are many needs there.

TRIP COST:   The basic price of the trip will be $1250 per person*. This includes round-trip airfare, insurance, in-country transportation, in-country logistical support, lodging, meals, orientation materials, and T-shirt. You will need to take additional cash for souvenirs you may want to buy. Price does not include materials that will be needed for ministry, i.e., VBS materials, building materials, medical supplies, etc. See below. (*Increase in price this year reflects the fact that each individual’s exit fee is now built into the ticket price and no longer paid at the airport as in the past.)

MATERIALS COST:  Each team must provide the cost of materials for construction projects. Unless otherwise stated, the cost for most construction projects will be $3000 per team. This amount must be received in our office 30 days prior to your departure date so that job site preparation may begin and materials delivered on-site prior to your arrival. Medical teams will also incur some costs to cover the services of a Honduran doctor and other expenses. Evangelism teams will supply their own needed materials, which should be in Spanish (VBS material, tracts, Bibles, etc.)

TEAMS: Teams should be comprised of no more than 14 and no less than 7 members. Having a Spanish translator will be very helpful to each team. Evangelism and medical teams will need two translators. If you cannot provide a translator, our on-site coordinators can contract translators for your team. Cost is $130 per translator for the week. Construction teams need at least one member who has some block laying skills/experience. A Honduran foreman will work with your team. On-site coordinators will arrange all logistics. Each team should bring one or two people to assist in food preparation and cleanup – or simply rotate that duty among team members. Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate (15 if accompanied by a parent or guardian).

HEALTH:  Team members must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for these projects. All areas of work will be hot and humid. Volunteers will need to make sure the following shots are up to date: Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus. Malaria pills are also recommended for most areas. Tell whoever administers your shots that you will be traveling to Honduras. (They may suggest other shots. This is up to you.)

TRAVEL:  Travel to Honduras requires a passport. Passports must have at least six months remaining from time of departure. All travel will be arranged by NC Baptist Men. Trip dates are listed on the back of this page. All trips will be nine days in duration. (An eight day trip can be arranged if desired, but price is the same.) Volunteers must depart from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Greenville (SC), or Atlanta. (Travel may be possible from other cities, but could involve an additional cost.)

LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS:. Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be quite strenuous and the climate will be hot and humid. Once applications and deposits have been received, team members will be sent an orientation manual, which will answer many questions about the trip. There is a special orientation manual for medical teams.

OTHER:  Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages is highly offensive to Honduran Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while in Honduras. Be aware that tattoos, multiple ear piercings, and facial piercing are “no-nos” for Honduran Christians. Team members should be prepared to cover tattoos and remove extra piercings.
