Teach in Hungary

Position Description

Teaching English in Hungary paves the way for the gospel in public schools all over the country. North Carolina Baptists on Mission in partnership with Hungarian Baptist Aid is seeking volunteers to serve as teachers for the 50 schools operated by the Hungarian Baptists. With native-speakers for bilingual programs or English as a second language instruction these schools provide new and unique opportunities for children; not only influencing language development but also formation in other areas. With teaching as a platform, this position is focused on sharing the gospel, building relationships in the community and helping in growing local churches or church planting efforts.

Funding Source

The position is partially funded by Hungarian Baptist Aid including housing and a weekly $100 stipend for the school year. Airplane tickets and five meals a week are provided. Minimal fundraising is necessary for mobilizing the volunteer for ministry during the summer months.

Role on the Missionary Team

The volunteer will also be expected to join the in-country team. In addition to teaching, other responsibilities may include evangelism, discipleship and church planting efforts. Furthermore, the primary teaching responsibilities last only from September to June, leaving the months of July and August for other work with the team. Summer responsibilities may include leadership development, volunteer team coordination, or leading of a summer camp.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited US college or university. A teaching degree is preferred but not required. A love for children and experience working with children, along with a passion for sharing Christ is essential. A pastoral recommendation and a background check are required for all applicants. A minimum two-year availability is necessary, with an opportunity to extend. New college graduates, singles and couples are welcome to apply. Age requirement is 21 and up. This is also a good opportunity for retirees.

Benefits and Services

Upon application and acceptance, North Carolina Baptists on Mission will help with travel logistics including processes for getting a passport, vaccinations and insurance. In-country help from Hungarian Baptist Aid will be available for obtaining a residence permit, finding a place to live and airfare to and from the country.
