Hurricane Debby Update  August 10, 2024
Tropical Storm Debby’s effect was felt across the state on Thursday, but the greatest damage may be yet to come as flood waters continue to rise in some parts of eastern NC. The effects of Debby included flash flooding, wind damage and tornadoes in certain parts of our state. Overall there was damage across the state but so far relatively limited.  The biggest exception to that may end up being the communities along major rivers in eastern North Carolina where the rivers have not yet crested.

We have been asked to set up one of our feeding kitchens in Lumberton and beginning today (Saturday) we will be preparing 2,000 meals per day for people affected by Debby. We also have a number of homeowner assistance requests from the Lumberton and surrounding areas and we began working on those today also.

Disaster Relief assessors are going into affected areas and trying to identify the greatest needs. Because you pray, give (to the NC Missions Offering) and you go, we are responding and prepared to respond in greater ways as needed. God has blessed us with great equipment and volunteers as well as our eastern North Carolina mission camps and rebuild centers in Lumberton, Red Springs, Rose Hill and New Bern so that we are able to respond. God has blessed us and asked us to be a blessing to others who are hurting.

Please pray for people who are affected by Debby as well as our volunteers who are serving them in Jesus’ name.

August 8 Update- Hurricane Debby, now Tropical Storm Debby, has impacted the Southeast United States over the past few days. North Carolina has experienced significant rainfall. At this time we do not know how or if we will respond. If you want to respond in the ministry you are trained in (EXCEPT RECOVERY), please email your DR ministry leader of your availability. IF YOU ARE wanting to respond to recovery please complete the VOLUNTEER NOW tab to the right. Once we have more information we will send you an email with that information. To give to this event, please click on the GIVE NOW tab to the right.

Thank you for your prayers as we are assessing damage and planning for the best ways to respond to damage caused by Tropical Storm Debby. NC has experienced tornados and heavy rainfall in certain areas. We know that some of the rivers (North Cape Fear and Lumber and others) are at flood stage and have yet to crest. It will be 2-3 days before some of the flooded rivers crest and we know if mass feeding will be needed in those communities. We feel certain that we will be doing mud outs and tear outs as soon as the waters recede. Please click on the Get Involved/Volunteer button.
