Community Ministry Projects

Community

In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Jesus does not promise that we will not be burdened; He promises that the burdens we carry will be light as we come to Him. As we are not alone in our burdens, we need not forget our neighbors who are weighed down with various circumstances in life. The following are some project ideas that can help you address different needs in the community.

Card Ministry

A word of encouragement goes a long way to comfort those who are sick or grieving, celebrate a joyous occasion, and share God’s love. A card ministry allows you to show that you care even when you are not present physically.

Goodie Bags for School Teachers

There is a metaphor in the Chinese language that likens teachers as "engineers of the human soul". Teachers are often like our second parents; they contribute so much to our lives, but we do not appreciate them enough. Making goody bags for teachers is a fun and creative way to show respect and gratitude to our teachers.

Offer ESL Classes

Language barriers can be frustrating when one attempts to communicate with another. While English is the most widely spoken language in the States, many struggle with the language. For those who have come here at an adult age to work or to study, navigating through everyday life with a foreign language can be especially challenging. By offering English classes to ESL (English as a Second Language) speakers, you can help build their confidence and ease their transition to this country.

Offer Music Lessons

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote, "Music is the universal language of mankind". However, many today do not have a chance to learn this language due to financial burdens and cutbacks in our schools' budgets. By offering free or affordable music lessons, you open a door for people to alleviate stress, stimulate the mind, and simply enjoy the gifts of playing a musical instrument.

Littering is illegal in many states, but often we pass by unsightly trash by the roadside. Cleaning up a roadside is a great project for all ages. By picking litter along a highway or park area, you can keep the community clean and beautiful. You might even help brighten the driver's day as they travel on a pristine road.

This is a great opportunity to allow participants to build meaningful relationships with another, and the plus side of making a school greener, cleaner, and safer is not bad, either.
