Children's Projects Ideas

Childrens Projects

In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

According to a study by The Barna Group, only 13% of senior pastors listed “ministry to children” as one of their church’s top three ministry priorities. While nearly every church offers some form of children’s ministry, there is a great need to disciple children and to meet their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs. The following are a few of the many project ideas to serve the children in your church and community.

Child ID Station

According to the National Center for Mission and Exploited Children, child abductions occur every 43 seconds in America with 800,000 children reported missing a year. Child Identification Kits are a simple, yet effective method in helping parents and guardians maintain a current description about their children such as fingerprints, records, picture, and DNA. By having a Child ID Station at your church, you can help ease the concern of worried parents and guardians.

Collect School Supplies for Needy Children

The National Retail Federation 2010 found that the average American family spends more than $600 on back to school supplies, with about $100 spent on school supplies. For many families however, the beginning of a new school year is a financial burden on homeless and destitute children. You can help a child in need by collecting and delivering school supplies.

Conduct a VBS

The history of Vacation Bible School (VBS) dates back to 1898, when Walker Aylette Hawes of New York City’s East Side noted a rapid increase in the number of immigrant children in the slums. She rented a saloon and ran “Everyday Bible School” for six weeks in the summer. By the time she retired in 1901, Hawes was presiding over seven schools.

Volunteer at Ronald McDonald House Charities

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) provides accommodation for families of serious ill or injured children. At a Ronald McDonald House, families are provided with home-cooked meals, private bedrooms, and playrooms for children. By helping to serve and prepare meals at House, you can help a struggling and hurting family feel like home. Alternatively, you can also volunteer at a Ronald McDonald Family Room located near a pediatric or intensive care unit. Hospitals are especially in need of volunteers during the holiday seasons.
