ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP
Baptists on Mission is in Partnership with Togo Christian Mission in the small West African nation of Togo. The project began as an initiative of Baptists on Mission’s Agricultural Advisory Team. A main emphasis is the development of an agricultural demonstration farm on 30 acres of property owned by Togo Christian Mission. In the next several years, Baptists on Mission will work with Togo Christian Mission to develop this farm, with the goal of teaching agricultural techniques and furthering the Gospel message of Christ.

In addition, there are several other ways that mission teams can serve through this parntership, including children's ministry/school outreach, medical and dental missions, and construction

ABOUT TOGO CHRISTIAN MISSION

"Togo Christian Mission (TCM) seeks to extend the kingdom of God in Togo through the development of healthy individuals, quality education, aid for at-risk children, and community development.” The mission is led by full-time missionaries Hammer Afakule and his wife Dela Their outreach includes a Medical Clinic, Christian School, and Community Development. The MEDICAL CLINIC provides primary health care, including wound care, malaria treatment, and even some emergent treatment as needed. The CHRISTIAN SCHOOL exists to reassure students and their family that there is hope in the Lord.  Students receive quality education and become godly people who will have a godly influence in the community. Currently, 230 students are enrolled in 1st through 9th grade. A GROWING, VIBRANT CONGREGATION meets in a church building located on the property.

MISSION TRIPS IN 2026

Dates:          August 3-11, 2026
                     November 30-December 8, 2026

If you are interested in taking a team to serve in Togo in 2026, please contact Mark Abernathy at mabernathy@ncbaptist.org or 919-459-5607. Teams may choose to do one of a few different mission options while in Togo. These may include:

Children/Student Ministry - This would primarily be VBS-type ministry with children in a school setting. It could be at TCM's school and/or a public school in town or surrounding villages. Team would prepare to lead in several area including Bible Story, music, crafts, and recreation. Will need those with energy and creativity who love children and have experience leading VBS type activities. Team will need to bring all materials that they will need for these ministries.

Medical/Dental - Team should be built around 2-3 primary care providers (MDs, DOs, NPs, or PAs) who will see patients.  Other team members serve as support personnel, and should be mostly comprised of medical professionals. Medication dispensary should be manned by a health care practitioner (pharmacist preferred, but RNs also work well in this capacity). Teams will need to bring in the medications they will use, counting on seeing at least 30 patients per person; per day. Some medications may be able to be bought in Togo.

Construction - TCM is currently constructing new classrooms to house their pre-school. It is a block and cement facility that will have block walls, concrete floors, and tin roof. Team members would work under the direction of a Togolese construction manager. Need those willing to do physical work, but not necessarily all "experts". Team may be asked to contribute some to the cost of construction materials. BOM rep will discuss this with team leader.

Other opportunities may also develop.

WHAT: Teams of 8-10 will travel to the town of Vogan, Togo to conduct targeted ministry and/or outreach events during the course of the week. Ministry may take place at the TCM compound, in town, or in surrounding villages.

WHO: Need those in good health and able to work in warm conditions. Togo can be warm. Must be 18 years old to participate. Sixteen year olds can come if accompanied by parent.

HOW: Baptists on Mission will make airline reservations, and coordinate-field logistics for all teams. Teams will stay in a local hotel or guest house.

COSTS: Estimated cost will be approximately $2000 and will include airfare, lodging, most meals, in-country transportation, and volunteer insurance. (Cost could be a bit more or a bit less depending on current airfare and specific project).

OTHER: Each team member will need a valid passport that has at least 6 months left on it from time of departure. Team members will also apply online for a tourist visa prior to departure. (Instructions will be provided).
