Guatemala GU23-132

GU23-132
August 25-September 2, 2023

North Carolina Baptsts on Mission (NCBM), working in partnership with International Indigenous Community Development (IICD) and the Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, will send volunteer mission teams to central Guatemala, throughout 2023 to assist with construction and maintenance projects, leadership development, medical/dental, and longer term service (1-3 months) at the children's home.

Located in Quetzaltenango (also known as Xela), these ministries primarily serve the Quiche people, who are the largest indigenous Mayan group in Guatemala. A missionary couple are on-site to provide direction to the team's work.

Baptists on Mission will arrange airfare, insurance, and in-country logistics for all teams. Most teams stay comfortably at the Good Shepherd Center, which has kitchen for team's use. Each team should bring 1-2 people who will be in charge of cooking for the week (or rotate that task between team members). Once on the field, team can buy needed groceries in town.

Please note that travelers will need a current passport that has at least six months remaining on it from time of departure. All volunteers must be 18 to participate (16 IF accompanied by a parent or legal guardian). Immunizations include up to date on tetanus and hepatitis A. (Malaria and Typhoid are not required as you will be serving at 8400 feet).
