Honduras HN17-201

HN17-201
Ministry Intern
July 17-August 10, 2017

This assignment will involve working closely with, and taking direction from, the NCBM On-site Coordinators. Individual will work on tasks as assigned by coordinator. This may include going out with the team to the worksite and/or completing tasks at the ministry campus. This individual must be mature - emotionally and spiritually -  ready and able to complete tasks and to relate positively to the team, on-site coordinators, and Honduran staff. In addition to the standard $1200 per week charge, there will also be an additional per day charge of $12 to cover the extra insurance and field costs.

EVANGELISTIC FOCUS: The purpose of our being in Honduras is to partner with Honduran congregations in proclaiming the gospel of Christ. All teams (including construction) will have opportunity and be encouraged to participate in evangelistic outreach to the community in which they work. This may include prayer walks, door-to-door visitation, VBS or Backyard Bile Clubs for the children, etc. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your team. Our ministry takes place in the Choluteca area, as there are many needs there.

AGE: Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate.

HEALTH:  Applicants must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for this project. All areas of work will be hot and humid. Volunteers will need to make sure the following shots are up to date: Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus. Malaria pills are also recommended for most areas. Tell whoever administers your shots that you will be traveling to Honduras. (They may suggest other shots. This is up to you.)

TRAVEL:  Travel to Honduras requires a passport. Passports must have at least six months remaining from time of departure. All travel will be arranged by NC Baptist Men. Trip dates are listed on the back of this page. All trips will be eight days in duration. Volunteers must depart from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Greenville (SC), or Atlanta. (Travel may be possible from other cities, but could involve an additional cost.)

LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be quite strenuous and the climate will be hot and humid. Once applications and deposits have been received, team members will be sent an orientation manual, which will answer many questions about the trip.

OTHER:  Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages is highly offensive to Honduran Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while in Honduras. Be aware that tattoos, multiple ear piercings, and facial piercing are “no-nos” for Honduran Christians. Team members should be prepared to cover tattoos and remove extra piercings.
