June 20-27, 2019

EVANGELISTIC FOCUS: The purpose of our being in Honduras is to partner with Honduran congregations in proclaiming the gospel of Christ. All teams (including construction) will have opportunity and be encouraged to participate in evangelistic outreach to the community in which they work. This may include prayer walks, door-to-door visitation, VBS or Backyard Bible Clubs for the children, etc. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your team. Our ministry takes place in the Choluteca area, as there are many needs there.

TRIP COST:   The basic price of the trip will be $1235 per person*. This includes round-trip airfare, insurance, in-country transportation, in-country logistical support, lodging, meals, orientation materials, and T-shirt. You will need to take additional cash for souvenirs you may want to buy. Price does not include materials that will be needed for ministry, i.e., VBS materials, building materials, medical supplies, etc. See below. *In this era of unpredictable fuel costs, we will make every effort to maintain this price throughout the year. Be aware that some teams may be required to pay a bit extra if ticket prices spike unexpectedly.

MATERIALS COST:  Each team must provide the cost of materials for construction projects. Unless otherwise stated, the cost for most construction projects will be $3000 per team. This amount must be received in our office 30 days prior to your departure date so that job site preparation may begin and materials delivered on-site prior to your arrival. Medical teams will also incur some costs to cover the services of a Honduran doctor and other expenses. Evangelism teams will supply their own needed materials, which should be in Spanish (VBS material, tracts, Bibles, etc.)

TEAMS: Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate (15 IF accompanied by a parent or guardian). Teams should be comprised of no more than 14 and no less than 6 members. One Spanish translator will be provided for each team. Evangelism and medical teams will need additional translators. If you do not have additional translators on your team, our on-site coordinators can contract translators for you if they know in advance. Cost is $130 per translator for the week. Construction teams need at least one member who has some level of block laying skills/experience. A Honduran foreman and local helpers will work with each construction team. (Almost any group can build a house in Honduras under our current system!)

HEALTH:  Team members must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for these projects. All areas of work will be hot and humid. Volunteers will need to make sure the following shots are up to date: Typhoid, Hepatitis A, and Tetanus. Malaria pills are also recommended for most areas. Tell whoever administers your shots that you will be traveling to Honduras. (They may suggest other shots. This is up to you.)

TRAVEL:  Travel to Honduras requires a passport. Passports must have at least six months remaining from time of departure. All travel will be arranged by NC Baptist Men. Trip dates are listed on the back of this page. All trips will be eight days in duration. Volunteers must depart from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh/Durham, Greenville (SC), or Atlanta. (Travel is possible from other cities, but could involve an additional cost.)

LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Participants must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be quite strenuous and the climate will be hot and humid. Each team leader will receive an electronica copy of our orientation manual and other information, which will answer many questions team members have about the trip. It will be the team leader’s responsibility to get this information to his/her team.

OTHER:  Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages is highly offensive to Honduran Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while in Honduras. Be aware that tattoos, multiple ear piercings, and facial piercing are “no-nos” for Honduran Christians. Team members should be prepared to cover tattoos and remove extra piercings.
