Puerto Rico Disaster Relief Training PR18-041

PR18-041
September 7-8, 2018

EVANGELISTIC FOCUS: The purpose of being in Puerto Rico is to show God's love in a tangible way.  All teams are encouraged to share your faith in word and deed.  Please keep this in mind as you prepare.

TYPE OF DISASTER RELIEF TRAINING: This disaster relief training is only for Puerto Rican Baptist volunteers and will be held at Primera Iglesia Bautista de Rio Piedras in the San Juan area.  Training classes will include Introduction to disaster relief, evangelism, Purpose of Disaster Relief and participants will choose two from the following: Administration, Chainsaw, Feeding, Logistics, DR Recovery/Rebuild and DR Evangelism. When you register, choose one training session that you would like to attend from the Session 1 training options and a different training session that you would like to attend from the Session 2 training options.

All Disaster Relief trainees will also do "hands on training" in a community to help put a roof on a home that was damaged by Hurricane Maria. Teams must be prepared to set rafters and install tin or similar roof covering.  Baptists on Mission will provide most tools.

COST:   $25 per person.  This includes training materials, transportation from the church to the sites, lodging, meals, T-shirt and building materials that are used for the training. You will pay the $25 training fee directly to the church when you arrive.

HEALTH:  Team members must be in good physical health. Anyone with a chronic medical condition should not volunteer for these projects. All areas of work will be hot and humid.

LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Travel, living, and working conditions may be difficult at times. The work may be quite strenuous and the climate will be hot and humid. Housing is in a church building, dormitory style.  Cold water showers and bathrooms provided in the church.  Meals provided.  Once applications have been received, team members will be sent orientation materials, which will answer many questions about the trip.
