Moldova MO22-007

Moldova MO22-007
June 12-20, 2022

Because of a partnership relationship, North Carolina Baptists have been invited by the Moldovan Baptist Union to send teams to their main ministry center in the village of Baltata, approximately 20 minutes outside of the capital of Chisinau. The center has 14 houses and a central building that includes a kitchen and large dining area. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the center has provided shelter for anywhere from 150-300 refugees each day. New refugees come into the center almost every day.

WHAT: Teams of 8-10 volunteers will serve weekly at the center. Team members may serve through a variety of tasks, including food preparation, meal cleanup, laundry, cleaning of rooms, stocking of supplies, etc. Teams will also have opportunity to engage refugee children in organized games and recreation, offer prayer and encouragement to mothers, and be a positive Christian presence to those seeking peace.

HOW: Baptists on Mission will recruit and fill the teams, make airline reservations, and coordinate on-field logistics for each team. Teams will depart the US on Sunday, arriving Monday. Once settled in and oriented, team will serve throughout the week. Sunday will be spent worshiping in a local church. Team will fly out Monday morning. The team will stay in rooms above the center kitchen. Each room has two single beds and a bathroom with shower. The center has washer and dryers that team members can use. Meals will be taken at the center dining hall.

COST: Estimated cost will be approximately $2000. Exact cost will vary depending on airfare at time of issue. BOM will work to get the best cost available. Field costs will be $350 and will include 1) lodging and three meals a day; 2) professional background check administered by BOM upon registration; 3) transport from and back to the airport; and 4) translators for the team.  BOM will provide volunteer missionary insurance for each volunteer.

OTHER: Each team member will need a valid passport that has at least 6 months left on it from time of departure. Team members will also want to purchase and bring with them video-validated COVID 19 self-test, ordered online no later than one week prior to the trip. (Info will be provided.) Proof of COVID vaccination or negative COVID test will be required for travel.

FINALLY: Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate. Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages may be highly offensive to other Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while traveling with Baptists on Mission.
