Volunteers Needed to do Ashout/Chaplaincy in Hawaii

John and Gay Williams, Disaster Relief directors for Hawaii/Pacific, just called to ask if we could provide up to 10 volunteers to do ashout/chaplaincy beginning Sunday, September 24. I realize this is short notice. Hopefully we can get a few of you to go. FEMA and the EPA just released the property owners to visit their homes beginning on Sunday.

Volunteers need to have some experience in ash out or be able to learn quickly. Volunteers also need to be willing to be chaplains in a loving and caring way. This is a delicate situation and we want to follow the directives of John and Gay.

You would fly to Maui on Saturday to be ready to work on Sunday. You would stay two weeks. Loding, meals, showers, laundry and transportation once in Maui are taken care of. You will need to pack an air mattress and linens as well as the clothes you need. As I get more information I will send to you.

Logistics

NC Baptists on Mission will book your flights for you. Once they are booked you will be sent the flight schedule. Your cost will be $500 total. The airline tickets right now are $700-$1,000+ each. Baptists on Mission is covering all but the $500.

You need to let Tom Beam know by tomorrow at 8:00 am if you can go by providing the following information:

  • Full name as it is listed on your ID or passport
  • Birthdate including year
  • Airport of choice (CLT and RDU have the best schedules)

We are limited to a maximum of 10 people. You should be in pretty good physical shape to do this work. That is all I know for now. Blessings as you consider doing this important work.

Baptists On Mission Disaster Relief Director
