Hurricane Florence Update: 10/11/2018
NC Baptists on Mission/NCBM currently still have 1 large mobile kitchen that is serving more than 6,000 hot meals every day to people affected by Hurricane Florence (at one time we had 10 large kitchens providing food). So far, over 1,030,000 HOT meals have been prepared and served from these kitchens.
We have a total of 13 sites that have recovery operations working out of them. We are doing chainsaw, mud-outs, tear-outs, shockwave/sanitation and putting tarps on roofs. Our large Recovery sites with site coordinators include: New Bern, Lumberton, Wilmington, Morehead City, Cape Carteret, Laurinburg, Warsaw, Scotts Hill, Rocky Point, Shallotte, Red Springs, Elizabethtown and others are being added. So far, over 1900 recovery jobs have been completed. More than 1500 jobs are still open and we need lots of tear out volunteers/teams. We are so thankful for those who have come to help us!
We are also distributing cleaning supplies, non-perishable items/canned food, diapers, baby formula, etc. to more than 20 different Distribution sites from our warehouse in Red Springs.
Long Term Response
This disaster is so big that it will require a long term rebuild response to help get many people back in their homes. We are planning on setting up three different rebuild center sites where we can house and feed many volunteers who will be working on homes. We plan to manage the rebuilding of homes from these “rebuilding hubs”.
You are Needed
Thousands of NC families were affected by Hurricane Florence. This will be a long term response that may take 2-3 years and require thousands of volunteers to help get many people back in their homes. We need churches, civic groups, businesses and corporate groups, we need Farm Bureau members, Lions clubs, Optimist clubs, businesses to promote community service days, we need neighbor helping neighbor, we need volunteer fire departments and other groups all saying we are going to help people get back in their homes.
Come Help Us
Come help us get a family or families back in their homes. For the sake of our communities, our children, our elderly and thousands of hurting people in eastern North Carolina. NC Emergency Management is working with FEMA to develop a plan to help get as many people back in their homes (safe, sanitary, secure- functional) as soon as possible. We need lots of volunteers, please come and help.
