Guatemala GU18-112

March 10-17, 2018

North Carolina Baptists on Mission (NCBM), working in partnership with International Indigenous Community Development (IICD) and the Baptist Children's Home of North Carolina, will send volunteer mission teams to central Guatemala, throughout 2018 to assist with construction and maintenance, leadership development, youth congresses, medical, dental, and longer term service (1-3 months) at the children's home.

Located in Quetzaltenango, these ministries primarily serve the Quiche people, who are the largest indigenous Mayan group in Guatemala. A missionary couple are on-site to provide direction to the team's work.

Teams may do construction/maintenance work on a new cottage that is being built for older children, maintanence at the Good Shepherd Children's Home, pastor training at the Good Shepherd Center, youth congresses at the GSC, or serve in local villages and towns through medical or dental clinics. Specific ministry tasks will be worked out between the team leader and missionaries, and relayed to team members.

Most teams stay comfortably at the Good Shepherd Center, which has kitchen for team's use. Each team should bring 1-2 people who will be in charge of cooking for the week (or rotate that task between team members). Once on the field, team can buy needed groceries in town.
