Moldova MO23-004

Moldova MO23-004
July 9-17, 2023

North Carolina Baptists have been invited by the Moldovan Baptist Union to send teams to their main ministry center in the village of Baltata, approximately 20 minutes outside of the capital of Chisinau. The center has 14 houses and a central building that includes a kitchen and large dining area. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the center has provided shelter for anywhere from 100-150 refugees each day. Some Ukrainian families have lived here for several months, waiting for the war to end. New refugees also come into the center each week.

WHAT: Teams of 6-8 volunteers will serve weekly at the center. Our teams do a variety of tasks, which may include grounds work, landscaping, special construction projects etc. each day. Teams also engage the children in VBS-type activities each afternoon, and some mornings. This may include Bible story, games, crafts, music, etc. At night the teams lead in ESL (English as a Second Language). This has been a big hit. At some point later in the week, teams have led in a women’s Bible Study/Prayer Time, and one for the men as well.  A translator works with each team. The encouragement our teams have provided has been greatly appreciated.

HOW: Baptists on Mission will recruit and fill the teams, make airline reservations, and coordinate on-field logistics for each team. Teams will depart the US on Sunday, arriving Monday. Our teams stay in rooms located above the dining hall kitchen. Each room sleeps two and has its own bathroom/shower. (Couples can of course stay in one room together. Singles will need to double up with a roommate). The center has washer and dryers that team members can use. Meals will be taken at the center dining hall. Once settled in and oriented, the team will serve throughout the week as described above. Sunday will be spent worshiping in a local church. Team will fly out Monda, arriving back in the US either late that same day, or on Tuesday, depending on airline.

COSTS: Estimated cost will be approximately $2000 (could be a bit less, could be a bit more). Exact cost will vary depending on airfare at time of issue. BOM will work to get the best cost available. Field costs will be $350 and will include 1) lodging and three meals a day; 2) professional background check administered by BOM upon registration; 3) transport from and back to the airport; and 4) translators for the team and 5) volunteer missionary insurance for each volunteer.

OTHER: Each team member will need a valid passport that has at least 6 months left on it from time of departure.

FINALLY: Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate. Those participating in this effort must be flexible and willing to work as a member of the team. Smoking, chewing tobacco, and drinking alcoholic beverages may be highly offensive to other Christians. Team members must refrain from these activities while traveling with Baptists on Mission. Team members must travel with, serve with, and depart with the team. No "extra" days or travel outside of these parameters will be allowed.
