Baptists on Mission exists to Glorify God by involving churches and Christians in meeting human needs in Jesus’ name
Just as thousands throughout Western NC last September, our family also experienced the fury of Hurricane Helene. On the morning of Sept 27, I journaled as the fierce rain and winds exploded around us- “Lord I have no idea what you are going to do through this storm, but please get the glory through it all.” After losing power and having trees fall near our house, there was a sudden lull in the wind and rain. Dewey and I stepped outside to check on the neighbors immediately around us. As I was walking back into our driveway, I heard a crack. Immediately I felt a strong push behind me to run. As I sprinted onto our back porch, a very large oak was falling, taking with it another large tree. They both fell right where I had been standing 4 seconds before. They did not destroy our house or well house and fell between our car and truck. Our neighbor whose doorstep I had just left came running, sensing I was underneath those trees. I shouted to her from the porch that I was safe and unharmed. We have been showing and sharing Jesus with this neighbor for 15 years without any changes. But that day she listened intently to our words and saw with her eyes the amazing grace of God. More gospel conversations have resulted with her and her son as well as more neighbors. Hundreds of similar stories have been shared throughout our region of how our God has been glorified through this tragedy. May we never stop speaking of the life-changing power of Jesus as we intentionally minister to our neighbors.
They will not forget. ~Kathie Aiken

The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. - Luke 4:18-19
